The importance of social media for your small business

According to new data, despite social media’s advantages, 25% of entrepreneurs do not utilise it for their small companies.

The 500 company owners questioned in the UK Domain research yielded some startling conclusions. Twenty-four per cent of users don’t believe it’s important to their sector, and 23% don’t know how to utilise it to market their company or don’t have time for it.

Only 15% say they don’t use social media because they already have enough clients, and 15% claim they have other reasons.

For those who do, Facebook remains the most popular social networking site (27%) despite recent data privacy concerns. Instagram comes in second place with 25% of the vote, while Twitter, a social media veteran, finishes in third with a solid third-place vote (though it has around half as many users as Facebook at 14 per cent).

Small company owners use social networking for several purposes. Raising brand recognition (29%) is the most important, followed by improving consumer involvement (26%) and generating sales (20 per cent). Social networks are also utilised to develop email lists (16%) and increase traffic to websites (16%). (7 per cent).

Improve your social media presence

To begin, you’ll need to determine why you’re using social media in the first place. Check out this guide to social media strategy for small businesses to learn more, or following these eight steps to get started right now.

Start carefully if you lack confidence, are fearful of dealing with dissatisfied consumers, or are concerned about hurting your brand. There will never be a foolproof recipe, but there are ways to improve your social media profile. Visit the UK Domain for some helpful recommendations on how to spice up your social media, as well as their whole online guide to social media strategy for further guidance and advice.
